STEM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math. It is a description of the inclusive world of the technology industry. The #Steminist movement is started by our Chief Technology Officer, Naomi Thomas, who believes that there should be more advocates for women pursuing STEM-related fields. STEM education is a conversation that has been happening in K-12 schools. Kids need to learn the basics of logic, problem-solving, and critical thinking. STEM education can help kids learn better and give them access to creating things with technology that can make our world a better place.

In our progressive world, only 26% of women occupy STEM-related fields. Come on people, we can do better. I’m very passionate about inclusive tech and the Steminist movement is highlighting the value, diversity, and backgrounds women bring to the tech world.

STEM Matters and This is Why

STEM has the ability to create an opportunity for those who love to problem solve. You don’t need to be a scientist or call yourself an engineer to have a STEM job. It extends throughout every vessel of any industry leader and positions people to create amazing things from ideas. Most of the jobs that need to be filled nowadays are STEM-related. Knowing the basics, being passionate, and self-motivated can accelerate us as a global community to the next level. Check out this infographic from http://www.topeducationdegrees.org/stem/. It shows that STEM is here to stay.

There are millions of American jobs that need to be filled in STEM-related industries. The opportunities in science, technology, engineering, and math fields are endless. You can tie any of your passions to technology. Industry leaders invest lots of money into the most innovative technologies out there.

STEM bridges the gap between idea and impact. We all say we want to leave a mark on this world but not many people know how to do it. STEM is a great place to build solutions to the problems of our world. Because of STEM we have social media, advanced medical practices, more data of the world around us, and are able to connect with people on a deeper level.

STEM is becoming a priority in our education system. Empowering the young minds of our generation to use their creativity for social good offers a new perspective. Kids nowadays are around technology constantly: on their iPads, iPhones, laptops. Giving them the tools to problem solve and use technology to create amazing things offers them a chance to make a difference and learn valuable skills that will carry them into these STEM jobs.
